Mary Cheney Library Director Doug McDonough says thanks to the Cheneys whose $3500 gift through the Cheney Family Fund led to a successful “One Book One Town” event in Manchester.
“The money was pooled with some other gifts to buy many copies of the same book and have the author visit Manchester for a day. The book chosen, entitled The Other Black Girl, was written by Hamden native Zakiya Dalila Harris. Her novel is loosely based on the author’s experience of working for the Knopf division of Random House books, a situation in which she was ‘the only black girl.’ Thank you to your family for helping us organize this great event!”
